OUR SOURCING

From Bean To Biodegradable Cup

The beans we use at Press Coffee & Juice are grown and roasted to meet the specialty grade, which is the term used for the highest grade of coffee available, relating to the entire supply chain, using single origin or single estate coffee. The terms was first used in 1974 by Erna Knutsen in an issue of the coffee & tea trade journal. Knutsen used specialty coffee to describe beans of the best flavour which are produced in special micro-climates. To be graded over 80 points or above of a 100 point scale by a certified coffee taster (SCAA) or by a licensed Q grader (CQI). The wonderful women who we have the pleasure to say grow our beans, are better known as Asociación de Mujeres Caficultoras del Departamento del Cauca, these are an association of women focused on gender equality, located in the department of Cauca. The association includes 274 women, every lady is head of their household, 15% of these members are indigenous with the average age of 40 years old.

Milk can make up to 70% of your drink, so we thought that comes with some importance. So heres a little about The Estate Dairy...

The Estate Dairy is a collective of young passionate individuals dedicated to producing and bottling the highest quality milk and cream. We source the richest milk from the Chew Valley, which is located right in the heart of the Bristol countryside. Our milk and creams are produced from our pedigree Guernsey cows resulting in milk with a unique golden colour and a beautifully rich flavour.

At The Estate Dairy, we only work with Farms and Suppliers who share our vision, ethos and standards for exceptional produce. We work closely with the talented Phil Durbin of Bickfield Farm in Somerset. Bickfield Farm specialises in producing high-quality milk from their own dairy herd, giving you the reassurance of knowing exactly where your milk and cream is coming from – straight from one single farm gate, guaranteeing provenance and traceability.

Bickfield Farm has been in Phil’s family for generations and has been tenanted by his family since 1930. Phil took over in 2002; today he and his team farm 470 acres of mainly grassland. On Bickfield they milk 320 mainly pedigree Guernsey cows with a handful of Jersey, Swedish Red, Norwegian Red and Friesian cross Guernseys.

Drawing on more than 10 years of research into the complex makeup of milk and how it behaves, The Estate Dairy team and all our farms and suppliers are devoted to the pursuit of bringing our customers exceptional dairy produce all from traceable single farm gates. Sustainability is important to us which is why we work with forward-thinking farms and suppliers.

In 2019 we opened our London office to supply the UK with sustainable packaging alternatives, and we also became Carbon Zero Certified through Toitu Envirocare, eliminating our carbon footprint through purchasing carbon credits to plant trees and install solar energy stations around the world. Something we worked hard to achieve, and our proudest achievement thus far.

We see ourselves as an innovative packaging company striving to revolutionise the industry by leading the way with our commitment to product stewardship, sustainably produced products, and incredible customer service. We are passionate about helping the UK’s leading coffee roasters, cafes, food trucks and businesses become the most sustainable in the world.
